Is Wild Apricot Forum a good alternative to Yahoo Groups for Counselor to Counselor posts

Hi all who may have subscribed to this forum.  I am doing some research on how to better connect counselors to other counselors for assistance on breastfeeding questions and possibly home visits or taking on a contact for someone going on vacation.

We used to have Yahoo Group but when that was eliminated by Yahoo, we had our Nursing Mothers Counselor Group but that hasn't seen any posts since early 2020.

We have the capability of using this forum thru Wild Apricot to be a platform for counselor connections but a member has to click on the Forum after logging in and subscribe.  Then in a member's profile, you can click on the email settings to choose how you want to see Forum posts.

I am looking at other community based apps for alternatives as well, and at Google Groups but since all members are already set up in Wild Apricot, this may work to connect to each other.  Especially now with Covid making so many things virtual and losing the ability to gather in a large group and connect, our board has been trying to think of ways to better connect with and support our counselors.

Let me know if you have any suggestions or if you even received this?  It is a bit hard to see who has subscribed to this Forum but there has never been a posting in it.  Does everyone prefer Facebook Group, Google Groups, or this??  Or is there another app out there you are familiar with and like to use?

Thanks, Carol, for your work in finding out what the options are for communication among members. I don't know how many members want to have to go through Wild Apricot. Perhaps we could do a survey?

Would all members (full, provisional, and affiliate) be notified of messages in the forum?

I am eager for some type of group communciation!

    THANK YOU!!

Lori, we can set the type of member groups that would be eligible to subscribe to the particular forum.  But each member controls whether or not they want to subscribe to receive forum posts and how often they want to see them.

Raina called me and thinks that using Wild Apricot as a counselor interaction/question tool would be too complicated as it is not user friendly enough for a lot of folks.  She would prefer to stay with the Facebook Nursing Mothers Counselors private group and I helped her to pin the group to her Facebook so she can easily find it and she updated to receive all the group posts now.

So far, Facebook NMC Counselors Group seems to be winning the vote.  I shared the Great Nonprofit review of NMC with the group as it is always nice to see as a counselor that you are appreciated by our clients.

    Hi Carol,

Would you be willing to send a survey to all members asking which they would use?

    Thanks,

    Lori

Just checking in on this, I didn't get any notifications on posts here.  I don't think this is a a great option if we want to connect as a counselor community

Not sure why I didn't receive any notifications about this! But I'd be happy to have a WA forum. I'll also answer the poll.
