The protocol for treatment of mastitis has changed, and Dr. Katrina Mitchell will share her research that has created a new protocol on treatment by the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine.
Traditional lactation advice may lack appropriate correlation to the physiology and anatomy of the breast, and myths abound regarding topics such as mastitis treatment. This presentation will explore the background behind common concerns in lactating patients, and provide new scientific evidence that will improve clinical practice. Other discussion will include nipple blebs, nipple anatomy, and nipple shields. The presentation will conclude with an overview of common questions regarding the need to discard milk in the setting of breast lumps, medications, surgery, anesthesia, and other procedures such as botox injections.
